Why Meditate?
Meditation is proven to:

Reduce chronic stress and the negative effects of chronic stress

Improve immune system function by reducing cortisol (the stress hormone)​
          -“Studies show that 60-90% of Doctor’s visits are for stress-related complaints” - Dr. Benson

Switch on immune stimulating genes 
           -Harvard Medical School Study in 2008 showed that in long-term practitioners of yoga/meditation, more “disease-                  fighting genes” were active, compared to control group

Lower blood pressure
          - relaxation results in increases nitric oxide which helps open blood vessels

Prevent premature aging
           - 2011 UCLA study shows an increase of Telomerase in meditators which is linked to premature aging

Positively impact Brain Function 
           - increases gray matter density in the hippocampus (learning, memory, emotional regulation)
           - decreases gray matter density in the amygdala, correlates with lower stress levels
           - when we are calm, we are able to think more clearly and make better decisons
           - calmer = smarter, meditation is proven to raise IQ levels 



When we reduce stress, we are more present and focused.
